CyberFirst Yorkshire Capture the Flag hosted by Palo Alto Networks
We were thrilled to see three of our CyberFirst schools, Pudsey Grammar School, Hanson Academy and Trinity Academy St Edward’s, take part in the recent CyberFirst Capture The Flag competition, hosted by industry-leading cybersecurity experts Palo Alto Networks.

The event brought together five schools from across the Yorkshire and Humber region, offering students a unique and exciting opportunity to step into the fast-paced world of cybersecurity. Through a series of hands-on challenges designed to mirror real-world scenarios, students were tasked with cracking codes, identifying system vulnerabilities and solving cyber puzzles that tested their logic, technical knowledge and resilience under pressure.

For many students, it was their first encounter with cybersecurity challenges, but the day was thoroughly enjoyed by all, creating curiosity and enthusiasm throughout.

The CTF format, designed to be fun and fast-moving, allowed students to experience the skills required in the cybersecurity industry. It also encouraged collaboration, critical thinking and innovative problem solving, which are all essential capabilities in today’s digital world.

The response of engagement and energy from all the schools was incredible. Teams worked together, combining their strengths and strategising aiming to gain the most points in the competition. It was fantastic to hear of the enthusiasm and determination of every participant, with many showing interest in pursuing cybersecurity as a potential career path.

A huge well done to all the students who took part, your commitment and teamwork were amazing. And a special congratulations to Trinity Academy St Edward’s, who secured the top spot on the regional leaderboard, showcasing exceptional skill and collaboration throughout the competition!

Events like this are a key part of the CyberFirst programme, helping to nurture the next generation of cyber professionals by providing real-world experiences that bring classroom learning to life. We're incredibly proud of the students, teachers and schools involved, your efforts continue to raise the bar for digital excellence across our region.

Well done once again to everyone who participated!
