Celebrating Excellence in Computing and Cyber Education Across Yorkshire and Humber

Teachers, ambassadors, and emerging leaders from across Yorkshire and Humber have been recognised for their exceptional contributions to computing and cybersecurity education, with three standout individuals receiving top honours for their remarkable impact on young people, schools, and the wider community.

Most Inspiring Teacher Award – Liz, Trinity Academy St Edward’s, Barnsley

Liz, a phenomenal teacher from Trinity Academy St Edward’s in Barnsley, exemplifies what it means to lead by example. As one of Yorkshire’s standout computing educators, she never stops learning. She has earned every professional development badge offered by the National Centre for Computing Education — not just to develop her own expertise, but to reflect, refine, and share her knowledge with colleagues across her trust and the wider region. Her openness to collaboration and generosity in supporting others have made her a trusted and respected voice in the computing education community.

Liz has also championed the CyberFirst programme, becoming a CyberFirst school and opening doors for her students to explore the rapidly expanding world of cybersecurity. Her impact is clear. Among many successes, one of her Year 9 pupils achieved an extraordinary 2nd place out of more than 6,000 entries in the regional Switch Up Cyber Competition last year.

Her creativity is equally impressive. In July, her students designed and built hundreds of model Enigma machines using Pringles tubes — she maintains she didn’t eat them all — creating a memorable and hands-on learning experience that captured imaginations across the school.

Beyond the classroom, Liz has strengthened partnerships with Sheffield Hallam University, the University of Leeds, Cyber and STEM Ambassadors, near-peer mentors, and family engagement initiatives. These collaborations have helped raise aspirations, build confidence, and make computing relevant and exciting for every young person she teaches.

Liz’s energy, care, and vision make her an extraordinary role model for both teachers and students alike. She is a thoroughly deserving recipient of the Most Inspiring Teacher Award.

Next-Gen STEM Award – Morgan Bain

Morgan Bain has received the Next-Gen STEM Award for her outstanding leadership and passion for cybersecurity, which have made a lasting impact on young people across Yorkshire and Humber.

As the driving force behind the Cyber Career Pathway event, Morgan brought together more than 220 students from across the region to discover exciting futures in technology. Under her leadership, participants listened to powerful student stories, learned from CyberFirst Ambassadors, and took part in hands-on cyber skills workshops designed to ignite curiosity and ambition.

The entire event — from conception to delivery — was developed and run by 24 Sheffield Hallam student STEM Ambassadors, all guided by Morgan. Her exceptional project management skills ensured the day ran seamlessly, and her enthusiasm for cybersecurity shone through in every moment.

Through her dedication and vision, Morgan has inspired the next generation of cyber talent, lighting the way for many others to follow.

CyberFirst Ambassador Award – Zeshan Sattar

Congratulations also go to Zeshan Sattar, recipient of the prestigious CyberFirst Ambassador Award, recognising his unwavering commitment, passion, and enthusiasm for supporting the CyberFirst programme.

As a valued member of the CyberFirst steering group, Zeshan plays a key role in shaping the programme’s direction. His work on the assessment panel for CyberFirst school applications highlights his dedication to supporting the next generation of cybersecurity professionals and strengthening the standards of excellence across the region.

Zeshan’s energy and enthusiasm have made a powerful impact, with his ability to inspire and engage participants demonstrated most recently through his involvement at STEMFest and events delivered with the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Organised Crime Unit.

He has also been instrumental in the planning and delivery of the CyberFirst Conferences in Yorkshire and Humber, helping ensure these flagship events continue to grow and succeed.

Together, Liz, Morgan, and Zeshan represent the very best of computing and cybersecurity education in Yorkshire and Humber — passionate advocates who are transforming opportunities for young people and shaping the region’s digital future.
